Field Trip

On Tuesday 9th October, as a class we were instructed to meet at the Apostrophe cafe in Oxford Circus at 10:30am. The aim of the trip was to be inspired and to gather as much primary research as possible. The day was split into sections and the group was split into two halfs. One group would go to the Material Lab and the second group would go to the Photographers Gallery bookshop and then the groups would swap over. Material Lab From the Material lab visit it make me think about patterns, textures and different technique could consider within my work.

Fashion Events

After pinpointing  the company I wanted to create either a event or a lookbook for. Initially I was interested in creating an event for Rat & Boa as they currently only supply online. The first idea I had was creating a pop event to launch the brand, for their customers to really experience the brand. I decided to research current events that have already happen.

On July 13th, 2013 Alexander Wang created a top secret event. Advertised as a one-time-only event, fans were invited to an undisclosed event in a warehouse. The eager fans were ushered into a empty room with a large screen, where Alexander came on the screen explaining about the pieces that would be displayed in the event. He then goes on to explain that everything in the event is entirely free for them to  take as much as they can physically carry. What I found interesting that unknown event caused such a stir even though nobody actually knew what was going to happen. A simple concept, but still creating a talking point.

For Henry Holland's latest collection he named it Mr Quiffy, as a play on words he transformed a traditional ice cream van. The van was designed to complement his signature style of the current collection. The van toured around selling House of Holland limited addition events. The idea of your customers being about to interact with the brand whilst on the move. The concept visual fits in with the collection.

The luxury brand Maison Martin Margiela prepared to open it's doors for the first time in London. The advertisement campaign concept was simply black and white sandwich boards and basic leaflets, on the city of London. Which read ' Now open Maison Martin Margiela 1-9 Bruton Place' I thought it was a very effective choice because it was such a simple idea.

Rat & Boa

For this module I have decided to create an event/lookbook for an online company called Rat & Boa. The company are currently using bigcartel.com as an outlet to sell garments and accessories.

The founders of the brand Stephanie Bennett & Valentina Muntoni established the company in the North East of England.

Rat & Boa is for the lovers, daredevils, women of the night, believers and free spirit.

The brand currently only advertises using online social platforms such as Tumblr, Facebook and Instagram. Taking advantage of social platforms by advertising new garments available on the their online website, re-stocking dates for the website, competitions where they get followers to like and re-post images to be in with a  chance to products from the online site.

They tend to restock new stock at least once a month, when they do re-stock the product range tends to be high in demand and is sold within hours of being updated.

Aims to encourage individuality, expression and be a free spirit.

Handmade products, festival wear, bohemian, vibrant, sheer,

Dip dyed, marble effect, crochet, printed

Module Launch

 Wednesday 25th September

The session began with the digital fashion students, presenting their future trend mood boards to the class. We went round the class critiquing each others take on future trends. We were then put into groups and given the task of choosing one member of the groups trend board to create a word representing the board and then visual describe the word using appropriate media, we were then given an hour to go around the university and find the best ways best to describe each letter.

Within the group we chose the word 'survive'

The 'S' was from an army font with an explosion as the background

The 'U' was dripping blood from an online source

The 'R' was barbed wire was found on a online source

The 'V'  was smoke from an image we found online

The 'I' was a chain found in a student exhibition in the university

The 'V' were studs pressed into fabric and were also found in a student exhibition in the university

The 'E' was a tiger turned on its side and was found from an online source

Once we were happy with the layout we then had to upload the images to Instagram and facebook.

In the afternoon session the module was launched, t
